Throughout the preseason, the Arizona Cardinals were the byproduct of a new NFL rule change, as they were continuously penalized for false starts on the quarterback.

Those were called on the quarterbacks clapping their hands for the ball to snap, doing so in a way that failed to meet the criteria of officials. The frantic nature of the clapping that many quarterbacks have relied on in the past to absolutely get the ball before the play clock expires is no longer tolerated.

It became a leaguewide discussion point after the first game of the season when Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was called for the penalty in Week 1.

The Cardinals themselves went away from it in a Week 1 tie against the Detriot Lions, only for it to occasionally perk up during Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Starting quarterback Kyler Murray used a clap to get his center A.Q. Shipley to snap the ball a handful of times, presumably due to a loud environment on the road.

Murray was not called for a penalty off any of those, which seemingly means we can all move on from this with our sanity intact.

Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury is ready.

“Was a positive,” he joked when asked by 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s Bickley & Marotta about no flags being thrown. “We’ve moved forward from that and all parties are in a good place.”

When told there was not going to be any followup question on that, Kingsbury shared that desire to not discuss the clapping habits of his quarterback anymore.
