The Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State recently announced the Master of Sports Law and Business program will be named after former MLB commissioner Allan “Bud” Selig.

The school also announced the creation of the Marie Selig Professorship, in honor of Selig’s mother.

Both the naming of the program and the professorship were announced at the release of the new book “For the Good of the Game,” written by Selig.

Selig, who has supported the Sports Law and Business program for several years, is a distinguished professor of sports in america at the ASU Law School. He is also the founding member of the Sports Law and Business Advisory Board.

Professor Zachary Gubler, whose research focuses on corporate law and financial and securities regulation, was named the first recipient of the Marie Selig Professorship.

Before his time with ASU, Selig was commissioner of Major League Baseball from 1992 to 2015.

As commissioner he oversaw a number of advancements in the game that include the addition of Wild Card teams, MLB.com and the World Baseball Classic.
