Cardinals rookie tight end Caleb Wilson signed with the Redskins off the Arizona practice squad, said Washington interim coach Bill Callahan at his Friday press conference.
The last pick in the 2019 NFL Draft (seventh round, 254th overall), Wilson joined his father, defensive assistant Chris Wilson, under employment with the Cardinals.
Wilson went through camp and was waived at the 53-man roster cutdown before Week 1. He cleared waivers and rejoined Arizona on its practice squad.
There, he sat as the fourth tight end on the depth chart behind Maxx Williams, Charles Clay and Darrell Daniels, the last of whom shuttled between the Cardinals’ regular roster and their practice squad.
A pass-catching tight end, the 6-foot-4, 235-pound Wilson recorded 965 yards and four touchdowns in 2018, his junior season at UCLA.
