What’s better than one Ahmed in the Arizona Diamondbacks infield? How about two Ahmeds.

D-backs gold glove shortstop Nick Ahmed got a chance to share the infield with his brother Mike in a game against the San Diego Padres at Salt River Fields on Saturday.

Nick has played six seasons with the D-backs, while Mike is playing in his first season with the organization.

Mike joined Nick in the top of the fifth inning after running for Eduardo Escobar in the prior inning.

“When you can create some moments like that, at times it’s bigger than the game,” said D-backs manager Torey Lovullo.

Lovullo told the brothers they would play together prior to the game.

“They’re so professional about it, they know what the task is, they got to go out and play a baseball game,” said Lovullo. “Deep down it was a special day for them, special day for their mom and dad.”

The two nearly turned a double play, but Abraham Almonte just beat Mike’s throw to first base.

Lovullo says it would have been a double play in a typical set up, but the infield was semi over-shifted and Almonte shot the ball the other way.

“Looked good enough for me,” said Lovullo. “In ten years when they are talking about it, they may switch the narrative and talk about turning the double play rather than the guy being safe.”

Mike had a walk in two at-bats, while Nick finished the day 0 for 3 with a walk in a 10-5 win.
