Inside the Box: Giant pitching silences D-back bats

After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and provide you with instant analysis. So it’s
time to go Inside the Box for April 15, 2011: Giants 5, Diamondbacks 2

All was quiet on the Diamondbacks offensive front on Friday in the team’s 5-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants.

Aside from a few hits, the D-backs couldn’t solve Giants starter Matt Cain who threw 6+ innings giving up only one run.

The Giants bullpen was able to squash Diamondback rallies in the seventh and ninth innings to finish off the game.

The Diamondbacks have to start making something happen early in games and jumping ahead because they don’t have the offense to be a good come from behind team.

D-back starter Daniel Hudson fared okay striking out 10 batters which tied his career high.

However, Hudson left a pitch over the middle of the plate to Pablo Sandoval in the first inning and he deposited it for a three-run homer.

That would provide the Giants with all the offense they would need for the entire night.

Too often this season, Diamondbacks’ starters are putting their team behind early.

Arizona at 5-7 is currently in last place in the NL West and is already 5.5 games back of division leader Colorado.

Talk of competing for the division will soon dissipate if the team doesn’t get its pitching going.
