Inside the Box: D-backs don’t quit

May 6, 2011, 3:22 AM | Updated: 5:54 am

After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and provide you with instant analysis. So it’s
time to go Inside the Box for April 27, 2011: Diamondbacks 3, Rockies 2

The Good:

Two ninth-inning homers from Gerardo Parra and Chris Young tied the game at two. Considering the D-backs could only scrape by with four hits in the previous eight innings, this was a huge surge of offense at a crucial time. The tie sent the game to extra innings, where the D-backs won it in the eleventh inning.

The Bad:

D-backs starting pitcher Ian Kennedy gave up a hit on the first at-bat in each of the first four innings. In the second and fourth, the Rockies took advantage of the young starter’s apparent nerves to drive in a total of two runs.

The Funky:

In the first inning, the D-backs loaded the bases without getting a single hit. A throwing error, a passed ball and two walks gave the D-backs their best scoring chance of the night.
