D-backs lineup more set than before, but not done yet

When a team finds success it would be well served not to mess with what led to it.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have been on a roll since the middle of May, with largely the same group of players getting the majority of at bats. Does that mean they found a set lineup? Not quite, but they’re getting closer.

“I think guys understand where they’re kind of hitting in the order more,” manager Kirk Gibson said of where the team is at. “The bullpen as well.”

Gibson, though, added the caveat that it is not where it needs to be, which is actually a very nice sign.

While the team is currently competing for the NL West crown, the manager seems aware that the team is very much a work in progress. They have not arrived by any stretch of the imagination, so it’s nice to see he’s not settling for just being better than expected.

Because, as we’ve seen through just more than 50 games this season, expectations can change at the blink of an eye.
