You can retire the #VoteForIan hashtag on Twitter and stop filling out ballots on MLB.com, the Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Ian Kennedy won’t be playing in the All-Star game. Well, at least not thanks to the fans in the ‘Final Vote’.
Major League Baseball announced Thursday afternoon Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino was the fans choice to fill the National League’s final roster spot for the mid-summer classic. He tallied an impressive 9.2 million votes. Finishing in second place was Dodgers’ Andre Ethier followed by the Rockies’ Todd Helton, the Nationals’ Mike Morse and Kennedy finishing dead last.
Kennedy still has a chance to play at Chase Field next Tuesday with injuries and pitchers making starts Sunday on the National League squad. If he doesn’t make the team though, the only people D-backs fans will have to blame is themselves.
