Diamondbacks staring history in the face in Game 5

Oct 7, 2011, 1:02 AM | Updated: 2:02 am

The Diamondbacks have an opportunity to shatter expectations and stare history in the face come Friday night.

“The Diamondbacks are standing on the precipice of greatness,” said Ron Wolfley, co-host of Arizona Sports 620’s Doug & Wolf Show.

Going into the 2011 NLDS Game 5 in Milwaukee, the D-backs have a shot to do what no team has done before and everyone said was impossible.

If the D-backs pull out a win against the Brew Crew, they’ll have completed the first three-game comeback since baseball altered the series setup. “They’re going to get the opportunity to do something that has not been done in the NLDS since they changed the format back in 1995,” Wolfley said.

With the Brewers strength clearly being their MLB-best home record, the D-backs would also defy logic — and likely more than a few bookies — should they drop the Brewers from the playoffs.

“Every finger points at it ending in Milwaukee, that the season is over for the Diamondbacks now and that’s what’s so cool about it,” said co-host Doug Franz.

No one imagined at the start of the season that the D-backs would be in a position to knock off the Brewers in Game 5 of the NLDS but that is how history is made: by staring it in the face.
