Keith Law: Upton still has ‘another level’

Dec 2, 2011, 4:58 PM | Updated: 5:28 pm

Keith Law named Justin Upton the top player
in baseball under 25
, and the baseball insider joined
Arizona Sports 620’s Doug and Wolf to discuss why.

“It wasn’t close,” Law said. “There were really only two
candidates; it was him, number two was Andrew McCutchen
with the Pirates.”

Upton hit 31 home runs, drove in 88 runs, and hit .289
last season, while playing solid defense in right field.

“The only real negative on Upton is that he doesn’t play
in the middle of the diamond,” Law said, “but he adds
value in right field and he’s still so young.”

Despite having completed his fifth season, Upton is only
24-years-old. He made his Major League debut in 2007.

Upton’s 31 home runs were a career high, and Law thinks he
still has plenty of room to grow offensively.

“He’s still got three more years of development,” Law
said. “And I think what you’re really going to see is more
development on the power side.”
