ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

Encouraging news on the D-backs injury front

May 11, 2012, 12:24 AM | Updated: 10:14 pm

The Arizona Diamondbacks are getting healthy.

Or, at least, they’re getting healthier.

Arizona Sports 620’s Jeremy Foster saw an extended spring
training game at Salt River Fields Thursday, and spoke
with Diamondbacks GM Kevin Towers afterwards.

Chris Young

Towers said outfifelder Chris Young, who has been on the
DL since April 18 due to a right shoulder contusion, will
face live pitching Friday in a simulated game. If all goes
well he will begin a rehab assignment early next week, and
possibly rejoin the Diamondbacks when they head to
Colorado Wednesday the 16th.

Daniel Hudson

Hudson, who has been on the DL since April 19 due to a
right shoulder impingement, will be the one pitching to
Young in the simulated game Friday.

Stephen Drew

Drew, who is working his way back from a devastating ankle
injury suffered last season, continues to log innings in
extended spring training games. He played six Thursday,
and the team hopes to get him up to seven innings sometime
next week.

Once Drew can play a full nine innings the next step,
Towers said, will be to get the shortstop comfortable
sliding, which is how he sustained the injury in the first
place.

If all goes well with Drew, Towers said they are hopeful
he will begin a rehab assignment by the end of May, with a
possible return to the D-backs in mid-June.
