Report: D-backs broadcaster Sutton suspended for ‘insubordination’

Jun 27, 2012, 3:47 PM | Updated: 4:58 pm

Diamondbacks play-by-play man Daron Sutton has been away
from the team since late last week, as reports on
AZCentral.com circulated that he may have been
suspended by the team.

No one has been quite sure what happened, but ESPN.com is reporting Sutton has been
suspended for “insubordination.”

The Arizona Diamondbacks have suspended broadcaster Daron
Sutton for “insubordination” after determining that he
had failed to comply with a number of management
directives over the years, a baseball source told
ESPN.com.

Among other reasons, the story mentions a dispute with the
team over a new on-air dress code, but notes a source said
the suspension was essentially the final straw among a
series of events, not one single incident.

Diamondbacks SR Vice President of Communications Josh
Rawitch said Friday “We’ve made an adjustment to the
broadcast talent lineup and Daron is going to be taking
some time off,” but that’s the only statement from the
team with regards to the situation.

Sutton has been the team’s television voice since the 2007
season, and has been replaced in the booth by longtime
radio voice Greg Schulte. Jeff Munn has filled in on the
radio side.
