Sure, you could read the box score and know who won, but
we
all
know that won’t tell you everything that happened in a
baseball
game. So, we will give you a closer look, providing you
with
the
analysis, quotes and notes from the D-backs’ August 15
loss to the Cardinals.
Final
score: Cardinals 5, Diamondbacks 2.

The good:

Matt Albers made his sixth appearance out of the bullpen for the Diamondbacks in the bottom of the seventh inning and continued his strong start with the team.

Albers came in to the game to the game and got Jon Jay to ground out to second. The next two batters, Allen Craig and Matt Holliday struck out. Albers has pitched 5.2 innings with the Diamondbacks and given up no earned runs, while striking out five batters.

The bad:

Joe Saunders took a line drive to his pitching hand at the end of the fifth inning, which turned into severe swelling on his palm and thumb between innings.

Saunders tried to pitch through the swelling but gave up two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, making the score 5-2 in favor of the Cardinals.

Saunders would not return for the seventh inning.

He said it:

“We scored four runs in two days. That’s not good,” Gibson told Fox Sports after the game. “We don’t have much of a chance when that happens.”

Noted:

Paul Goldschmidt’s 456 foot home run in the fourth inning was the longest by any opponent in the new Busch Stadium’s history.

Coming up:

Trevor Cahill (9-10, 3.85 ERA) takes on Kyle Lohse (12-2, 2.72 ERA) Thursday as the Diamondbacks look to avoid the series sweep against the Cardinals. First pitch is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Lohse has not lost a game since June 15 against the Kansas City Royals.
