Sure, you could read the box score and know who won, but we all know that won’t tell you everything that happened in a baseball game. So, we will give you a closer look, providing you with the analysis, quotes and notes from the D-backs’ August 22 win over the Marlins. Final score: Diamondbacks 3, Marlins 0.

The Good:

The Diamondbacks recorded their fourth doubleheader sweep in club history with a 3-0 win over the Marlins Wednesday night.

The Dbacks also earned their seventh shutout of the season and four of their last six wins have come when scoring three runs or less.

The Bad:

Leftfielder J.J. Pollock will immediate return to Triple-A Reno. He was the 26th player that was allowed on the roster because of the doubleheader.

The rules state that the player that was called up is the same one that must go back down. Pollock was 1-for-3 with single and a run scored, a walk and a strikeout tonight against the Marlins.

Noted:

Diamondbacks starter Wade Miley’s 14 wins are the most by a National League rookie pitchers since the Rockies’ Jeff Francis in 2005. Miley is also 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA in his last two starts.

Diamondbacks closer J.J. Putz is the first Dbacks player to record two saves in a single day. He also recorded two saves in one day for the first time in his career and he’s now converted 17 straight save opportunities.

He said It:

Manager Kirk Gibson talked about his young left handed pitchers performing today in two tough games of a double header.

“Well they did a hell of a job, that’s what they did,” Gibson said.

Up Next:

The Diamondbacks are off on Thursday before they host the San Diego Padres for a three game series at Chase Field, starting on Friday night.
