Sure, you could read the box score and know who won, but we all know that won’t tell you everything that happened in a baseball game. So, we will give you a closer look, providing you with the analysis, quotes and notes from the D-backs’ August 24 win loss to the Padres. Final score: Padres 5, Diamondbacks 0.

The Good:

Paul Goldschmidt made a web gem-worthy unassisted double play in the first inning of the game. He jumped to catch a line drive out of the air and flipped over to tag the runner trying to return to first base.

Arizona did not commit an error in the game and their defense was solid throughout the contest.

The Bad:

The D-backs pitching staff allowed 13 hits to a Padres team that ranks 26th in team batting average.

The Snakes have lost five of their last six series-opening games.

The Ugly:

Arizona managed only four hits in the game.

D-backs starter Patrick Corbin had his second-worst start as a big leaguer, allowing four earned runs and nine hits over the course of only four innings of work.

Kirk Gibson’s squad had one runner advance to third base all night; Gerardo Parra in the fifth inning.

He Said It:

“Maybe having that extra day hurt me a little bit, being as sharp as I’ve been,” Patrick Corbin said after the game. “But I’ll be ready and I’ll bounce back for next time.”

Up Next:

The Diamondbacks have right-hander Ian Kennedy (11-10, 4.24) on the mound to take on left-hander Clayton Richard (10-12, 3.73) Saturday night at 5:15 at Chase Field.
