D-backs owner says Trevor Bauer needs to grow up and mature

Oct 3, 2012, 8:22 PM | Updated: 10:07 pm

Ever since being drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks third-overall in 2011, Trevor Bauer has been the subject of much hype and scrutiny.

A right-hander with an unorthodox warmup routine, he made his highly-anticipated Major League debut in June of 2012, but was sent back to the minors after just four starts.

The 21-year-old posted a 1-2 record with a 6.06 ERA in four starts, and while he struck out 17 hitters in 16.1 innings of work, he walked 13 and hit one. Both his stuff and attitude were called into question, and though he was named the organization’s “Pitcher of the Year” after a successful minor league season, some question if he really has a future in Arizona.

“I will say this: he is the employee, and in an employer/employee situation it’s incumbent on the employee to make adjustments to satisfy the needs of his employer,” Diamondbacks managing general partner Ken Kendrick told Arizona Sports 620’s Burns and Gambo. “And I hope and trust that that will occur.”
