D-backs pitcher Patrick Corbin roughed up in first rehab start in Class-A Advanced ball

Seeing Patrick Corbin take the mound for Class-A Advanced Visalia on Monday was an encouraging sign.

What wasn’t so encouraging for the one-time Arizona Diamondbacks ace, however, was his performance.

The left-hander allowed four hits and four earned runs and walked two against the Lancaster JetHawks; and what’s worse is he only lasted two-thirds of an inning before getting pulled.

Radio voice of the Rawhide Donny Baarns said on Twitter that the starting pitcher hit 95 mph on the radar gun, but that was about the only bright spot of Corbin’s night.

That leaves the 25-year-old pitcher with an ERA of 54.00 after his first piece of real action since the 2014 Cactus League. The Rawhide ended up losing 8-3, falling to 37-20 on the year.

Corbin suffered a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow in spring training last year and had to undergo Tommy John surgery.

The 6-foot-2 lefty had thrown simulated games and in extended spring training over the past two months prior to making his return to the hill Monday.

The recovering pitcher broke into the majors in 2012 and was the Diamondbacks’ best pitcher in 2013, posting team highs of 14 wins (compared to eight losses), 208.1 innings pitched and 178 strikeouts while keeping his ERA to a starting-staff-low 3.41.
