...

Chase Anderson tried to do something that has not been done for the Arizona Diamondbacks since 2010 and Edwin Jackson.

Throw a no-hitter.

Anderson took his no-hit bid into the seventh inning until the San Francisco Giants’ Buster Posey hit a comebacker that went off of Anderson’s leg for an infield hit.

Anderson ended the night after pitching seven scoreless innings before giving way to the bullpen as the Diamondbacks bested last year’s World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner 1-0.

The D-backs lone run came in the top of the second inning when Ender Inciarte drove in Welington Castillo from second.

Anderson improves to 2-1 on the year and had a career low in giving up the one hit while striking out two and walking one and hitting two batters.

Here’s a look at Friday’s win in San Francisco, by the numbers:

1

Friday’s win was the D-backs first 1-0 win of the season.

7

Seven players on the D-backs had hits tonight. Chris Owings was the only starter to not record a hit.

9

The D-backs had nine hits off of Bumgarner, all singles against the lefty. Bumgarner went eight innings.

2

Randy Johnson and Edwin Jackson are the only two pitchers in D-backs history to throw a no hitter. Johnson’s no-hitter was a perfect game on May 18, 2004 in Atlanta against the Braves. Johnson’s perfect game was also the franchise’s first ever no-hitter. Jackson’s no-hitter came on June 25, 2010 in Tampa against the Tampa Bay Rays. Jackson walked eight and hit a batter while pitching 149 pitches, the most ever for a no hitter in MLB history.

18

It has been 18 years since the last time an opposing pitcher threw a no-hitter in San Francisco. Kevin Brown of the Florida Marlins no-hit the Giants on June 10, 1997.
