It’s fitting that fans of the Arizona Diamondbacks would be treated to a dominant pitching effort on a night where the team celebrated former pitcher Randy Johnson’s impending induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Completing eight innings of shutout work, Arizona starting pitcher Rubby De La Rosa made like the “Big Unit” on Randy Johnson Hall of Fame Bobblehead Night at Chase Field, allowing four hits and striking out six to earn his eighth win of the season, leading the D-backs to a 2-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers Saturday night.

De La Rosa is now 6-1 at home this season, lowering his ERA inside the friendly confines of Chase Field to 4.11.

On the heels of consecutive masterful pitching performances the past two games from rookie Zack Godley and Patrick Corbin, De La Rosa wasn’t anything but a shrinking violet with the spotlight on him in his 20th start of the year.

Though the right-hander didn’t receive the typical run support he’s accustomed to when he takes the mound (entering the day with the National League’s third-highest run support average at 5.75), De La Rosa was on point and in command all night long.

In fact, each of the four hits surrendered by De La Rosa were singles, and following the end of the third inning, the native of the Dominican Republic allowed only one single and issued only one walk the rest of the way.

Saturday’s start marked the eighth time this season De La Rosa has lasted seven innings or more, and was third instance in which he shutout the opposition, narrowly missing out on the first complete game shutout of his career when D-backs closer came on in relief in the ninth and final frame.
