The Arizona Cardinals have placed tight end Maxx Williams (knee) and linebacker Ezekiel Turner (shoulder) on injured reserve, the team announced Wednesday.

Williams posted to Twitter shortly after news broke, saying that he is looking forward to coming back stronger next season.

Head coach Kliff Kingsbury later confirmed the tight end is in fact done for the season.

In addition, the team signed safety James Wiggins from the practice squad to the active roster. Offensive lineman Josh Miles and defensive lineman Jordan Phillips have been designated to return from the injured reserve list.

Williams was carted off the field Sunday after taking a hit to the lower leg against the San Francisco 49ers with 2:41 left in the first half. He made 16 catches on 17 targets for 193 yards and one touchdown through the first five games before his injury.

The tight end joined the Cardinals in 2019 in his first season away from the Baltimore Ravens and earned a midseason contract extension in his first year with the team. That two-year deal ends after this season.

With Williams sidelined, the team announced the signing of tight end Richard Rodgers to the practice squad.

Rodgers spent 2020 with the Philadelphia Eagles and in 14 games (four starts) caught 24 passes on 31 targets for 345 yards and two touchdowns.

Additionally, cornerback Kevin Peterson and linebacker Joe Walker were also signed to the practice squad.
