Larry Fitzgerald credits nutrition, workout routine for success

It’s hard to believe it, but Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is in his ninth year in the National Football League.
And despite being the most targeted wide receiver in the league in that time span, Fitzgerald has stayed incredibly healthy — having missed only four of a possible 129 games during his career.
To what does Fitzgerald credit his amazing health? His nutrition and workout routine, which includes his use of EAS Sports Nutrition products.
“I’ve been fortunate to have a relationship with them for nine years, my entire career,” Fitzgerald told ArizonaSports.com. “A lot of guys don’t get on the cutting edge of nutrition and wellness until later in their career, but I was able to have the information and resources early to put myself in position to be successful.”
Fitzgerald has been religious in his routine since joining the Cardinals as the third-overall draft pick back in 2004. It’s a routine he continues even today.
“Every day after practice, after my workouts, I’m taking my Recovery Protein Powder and I know that everything that I’m taking that’s an EAS product is 100% certified and it’s safe and clean for me to be using.”
Fitzgerald took the college football world by storm as a sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh in 2003, when he caught at least one touchdown pass in 18 straight games. He says since those days, his workout routine has been altered a touch.
“I work much smarter now,” he said. “I know now what I need to do to get myself ready as opposed to experimenting and trying new things — trying this and trying that. I know what I need to do to be in peak condition when I come to training camp, so I’m ready to go when it’s time to go.”
One would think that the diligence Fitzgerald shows to his nutrition, workout and recovery schedule would be the norm around the National Football League. It’s not, but the Cardinals’ receiver isn’t surprised by that.
“It’s different strokes for different folks,” he said. “I know some guys that can go out and party and all night and drink and have a good time and come six o’clock in the morning, they’re ready to go to work, no problem.
“I’m one of those guys that has to have eight hours of sleep every night, I have to be eating right…I’m very regimented like that.”
And it’s working. Fitzgerald is ahead of the eight-year pace set by Jerry Rice, the league’s all-time leading receiver in receptions. Fitzgerald nabbed 697 balls in his first eight seasons; Rice had 610, but finished with 1,519 in his storied 16-year career.
