The Arizona Diamondbacks played themselves out of any realistic shot at a playoff spot in the season’s first month, but they’re now one step closer back to respectability.

After a six-run seventh inning propelled them to a 6-5 win over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday, the D-backs have closed the gap to the .500 mark to just nine games — a far cry from where they were a month ago.

Thanks to a career-best start from Chase Anderson and an explosive seventh inning, the D-backs were able to win Sunday’s rubber match against Atlanta despite falling in a 2-0 hole.

Here’s a closer look at the win, by the numbers:

3

Arizona catcher Miguel Montero had homered in three straight games — the longest streak for an MLB catcher in nearly a year and tying the D-backs franchise record for catchers — but that streak was snapped when he went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks on Sunday.

5

D-backs starter Chase Anderson has now won his first five major league starts, becoming the third pitcher since 1998 to do so. Anderson’s seven innings pitched Sunday were a career high.

7

Arizona rookie outfielder David Peralta has hit safely in all seven games he has played to start his major league career — the longest streak of any Diamondbacks rookie. He went 2-for-4 with his first major league homer on Sunday and is hitting .429 on the season.

8

The D-backs have now win eight of their last 11 series, and have won five of their past six games.

9

The D-backs are now nine games under the .500 mark, the first time they’ve been that close to the even point since the first month of the season.

18

Arizona first baseman Paul Goldschmidt has struck out at least once in 18 consecutive games, but his only hit Sunday was a mammoth two-run homer to center that put the D-backs up 6-4 in the seventh inning.

31

Anderson is now 5-0 to start his big league career, but it hasn’t come without help — he’s earned a total of 31 runs of support in his five starts.
