Arizona Diamondbacks and their 2014 trades

Aug 1, 2014, 1:18 AM | Updated: 1:18 am

The Arizona Diamondbacks said they wouldn’t be “complete sellers” at the trade deadline, but certainly made their fair share of moves Thursday as it approached. Now that the zero hour has passed, here is a quick recap of the moves the D-backs have made so far this season.

July 5: Tony Campana and Joe Thatcher to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for Zach Borenstein and Joey Krehbiel.

Campana was known for his speed and started 26 games for the D-backs, but was hitting .150 with only three RBI. Thatcher appeared in 37 games with a 2.63 ERA as a relief pitcher, giving up 10 runs in 24 innings pitched.

Borenstein was hitting .266 with five home runs and 28 RBI in 48 games for Double-A Arkansas. He struggled in 30 games for Triple-A Salt Lake, hitting .256 with two home runs and 22 RBI. Krehbiel spent a majority of his time in the Midwest League with Single-A Burlington. He appeared in 13 games, pitching 14 innings with a 1.93 ERA and only gave up four runs.

Thatcher has appeared in seven games for the Angels, posting a 6.75 ERA in 2.2 innings pitched. Campana was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake where he has appeared in 22 games and is hitting .333 with six RBI

Borenstein is struggling in Double-A Mobile, hitting .226 with three home runs and 13 RBI. Krehbiel has appeared in 10 games with Single-A Visalia, posting a 3.09 ERA in 11.2 innings pitched.

July 6: Brandon McCarthy and cash to the New York Yankees for Vidal Nuno.

McCarthy was struggling mightily in Arizona with a 3-10 record and a 5.01 ERA in 18 starts. The 26-year-old Nuno had a 2-5 record with a 5.42 ERA in New York. The D-backs had to pay $2.05 million of the $4.1 million owed to McCarthy for the rest of the season.

Nuno is 0-2 through four starts with the D-backs, and has a 4.43 ERA in 23.1 innings pitched. McCarthy has found more success in New York, winning three out of his first four starts with a 2.55 ERA in 24.2 innings pitched.

July 31: Gerardo Parra to the Milwaukee Brewers for minor leaguers Mitch Haniger and Anthony Banda.

The D-backs traded Parra, which they could do in part because of David Peralta emerging as a viable option in the outfield. Parra was hitting .259 with six home runs and 30 RBI, but was known more for his arm. In Double-A Huntsville, Haniger hit .255 with 10 home runs and 34 RBI. Banda appeared in 20 games for Single-A Wisconsin, starting 14, and was 6-6 with a 3.66 ERA in 83.2 innings pitched.

July 31: Martin Prado to the New York Yankees for Peter O’Brien and cash.

Prado was set to make $11 million in each of the next two seasons. He was hitting .270 with five home runs and 42 RBI. O’Brien has spent a majority of his season (72 games) with Double-A Trenton, hitting .245 with 23 home runs and 51 RBI. The 24-year-old was ranked as the No. 9 prospect in the Yankees system by MLB.com coming into the season.
