David Freese did it again for the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 5 of the NLDS. This time it was the Pittsburgh Pirates that were victimized.
Even though Adam Wainwright was the story of Game 5, little did he know that David Freese’s 2-run bomb in the 2nd inning would prove to be the coup de grace for the Pirates.
Freese did it again.
The Cardinals third baseman had a poor season. He struggled to overcome a back injury in spring training. His numbers were pedestrian. He hit 9 home-runs and had 60 RBIs. But the second season, and the pressure that accompanies it, is where David Freese shines. In 36 career postseason games, he’s hit 7 home-runs, collected 29 RBIs and has a batting average of .325.
The man is the metaphorical ax when pine boxes are being stacked in the dugout. He has hit more home runs in elimination games than any other player in St. Louis Cardinals franchise history; he has 3.
Freese is Clutch. And in the world of millions and franchise finances, Is there anything better than being clutch?
