The Arizona Diamondbacks may be eliminated from postseason contention, but that doesn’t mean their season is over.
After being officially eliminated from the playoffs yesterday, the team still had 13 more games to play in the regular season going into tonight’s contest against the Los Angeles Dodgers, a team that will be playing October baseball.
To a person who wouldn’t know, they would’ve thought it was the other way around as the D-backs pounded out 17 hits in a 8-4 victory over the Dodgers on Monday night to pick up their first win at Dodgers Stadium this season.
The D-backs had six players with multi-hit games, led by rookie infielder Brandon Drury’s first career three-hit evening.
Arizona also played some long ball with home runs by Yasmany Tomas, Aaron Hill and Paul Goldschmidt.
It wasn’t only the hitting that was on display on Monday night, but the pitching as well.
After giving up two early runs in the first inning, Jhoulys Chacin settled in to keep the Dodgers off the board for 5.1 innings pitched. Chacin, who earned his first win with the D-backs, has given up two runs or less in all four of his starts with the team.
The bullpen pitched well, only surrendering a two-run home run to Yasmani Grandal courtesy of Matt Reynolds in the eighth inning.
Let’s take a look at the D-backs win, By the Numbers.
