Wilson among NFL’s best safeties

Jun 13, 2011, 7:29 PM | Updated: 8:48 pm

Safeties are a football team’s last line of defense.

They are the last people standing between the offense and the end zone and are asked to do much more than tackle receivers and running backs who slip be cornerbacks and linebackers.

Safeties are asked to read offenses, blitz quarterbacks, cover receivers and occasionally stop the run.

While the Cardinals defense may not have been great as a whole last season, USA Today thinks the Cardinals had one of the best safeties in the league last year.

In a poll of eight USA Today NFL staff members, Cardinals Safety Adrian Wilson came in fifth.

The 11-year veteran, who may be best known for his 66-inch hurdle,, was credited with 88 tackles and two sacks last season. He also had two interceptions.
