Re-up or Reject: Steve Breaston

For a few seasons it seemed as though the Arizona Cardinals’ strength was in their receiving corps. Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin and Steve Breaston formed one of the league’s better trios, as they each had 1,000 yard seasons the year the Cardinals made it to the Super Bowl.
But now, Fitzgerald has one year left on his contract, Boldin is in Baltimore and Breaston is an unrestricted free agent. When free agency opens the Cardinals will have to make a decision on the former Michigan Wolverine.
Re-up: Breaston’s ability to stretch the field with his speed is unmatched with the Cardinals. He has some of the better hands on the team, and has shown the ability to thrive as a number three receiver. He’s coming off a season where he averaged a career-best 15.3 yards per catch, best on the team.
Reject: Simply put, number three receivers are not worth what Breaston will probably be paid. Though he’s solid, he did not step up last year in Boldin’s place, losing three games to injury and finishing with the lowest reception total since his rookie season. Seemed to have his role taken by then-rookie Andre Roberts last season.
