Paralyzed former Rutgers star Eric LeGrand asks girl to prom

Jun 11, 2016, 9:00 AM

Former Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand has been an inspiration following a paralyzing injury that ended his playing career, but his most recent act stands up to all his best ones.

LeGrand made high schooler Gianna Brunini’s day by asking her to prom last month.

The football star, who was paralyzed in 2010, met Brunini through therapy sessions a while back. Brunini, who is also in a wheelchair due to cerebral palsy, again crossed paths with LeGrand when he visited her Hanover Park High School to speak to her fellow students. The talking engagement was part of the plan.

Afterward, LeGrand asked the big question in front of Brunini’s classmates. She said “yes,” agreeing to get gussied up for the dance.

This week, the two spent much of the evening on the dance floor, and Gianna’s father, Bruno, caught some of it on film.

It apparently tired out LeGrand, who admitted he felt a little old at the event. It was all worth it.

“It was awesome to see the smile on her face,” LeGrand told the Asbury Park Press. “That’s what it’s all about.”
