The Arizona Diamondbacks’ big power prospect is going back to Triple-A.

The D-backs sent down Peter O’Brien Monday to make room on the roster for Nick Ahmed, who was returning from the paternity leave list.

The 25-year-old outfielder was called up on June 10, and it’s been a struggle for him at the plate right from the get-go.

O’Brien had seven hits in 56 at-bats (.123) and struck out 24 times. Four of his seven hits were home runs and he drove in eight runs.

Earlier in the season, fans were calling for the inclusion of O’Brien on the roster as he continued to light it up in Triple A-Reno. He hit .330 with 17 home runs and 52 RBI in 212 at-bats for Triple-A Reno this season prior to getting called up.

Despite the growing pains, O’Brien continued to play. After getting his first start on June 10, he started 11 of the next 14 games. Since June 25, however, O’Brien started in only one of the possible seven games.
