D-backs avoid a Reds sweep: By the Numbers

The Arizona Diamondbacks avoided a sweep against the Cincinnati Reds with a 9-8 victory in the series finale on Sunday.

Paul Goldschmidt broke a 5-5 tie in the fifth inning with his 17th home run of the season to give the D-backs the lead.

The offense pushed the lead to 9-5, but things got interesting in the bottom of the ninth.

Tyler Clippard walked Zack Cozart and Joey Votto before allowing a three-run bomb to Jay Bruce that cut the lead to 9-8.

The right-handed pitcher settled down after the big fly and struck out the side, in addition to a walk to Brandon Phillips, to end the ball game.

Yasmany Tomas, who has 15 home runs on the season, has hit multiple home runs in the same game for the fourth time this year. Other dates include: April 17 against the Padres, June 17 against the Phillies and June 24 against the Rockies. All four games have occurred in D-backs road games, which is tied for the second-most in team history in a single season.

Godley became the first pitcher in D-backs history to win eight games in his first 10 career starts. On Sunday, he pitched 5.2 innings and gave up five earned runs and 10 hits, while striking out three Reds hitters. He holds an 8-2 record with 4.34 ERA in his time at the big league level.
