Diamondbacks third baseman Jake Lamb is listed day-to-day due to a hand injury that has affected his play at the plate, according to MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert.

Arizona manager Chip Hale told the media he hopes Lamb is back in the lineup by Friday, but the third baseman is hitless in his last 19 at-bats and did not start Tuesday.

The injury situation, however, isn’t all bad news.

Outfielder David Peralta will rejoin the Diamondbacks on Friday for Game 1 of a series at the Los Angeles Dodgers, and pitcher Zack Greinke will “likely” take the mound in an Arizona League game the same day, Hale told the media on Tuesday.

Peralta has not played for the Diamondbacks since June 14 due to a back issue, and his return will create a crunch in the outfield among a makeshift group of players.

Center fielder Chris Owings just returned from a rehab appointment in the minors to join Michael Bourn and Yasmany Tomas in the D-backs’ outfield against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday.

Those three, plus Brandon Drury, who started at third base for Lamb on Tuesday but has played outfield, could lose playing time to a healthy Peralta.

Meanwhile, Greinke appears ready to begin his comeback from a left oblique strain suffered June 28. The ace threw 40 pitches during a bullpen session on Tuesday and on Friday will “likely” play in a rookie league outing, reports Gilbert.
