With the Cleveland Browns already losing two quarterbacks to injuries in the first two weeks of the season, someone on the team had to go to make room on the roster. That man was former Arizona Wildcats star Scooby Wright.

The Browns waived Wright Tuesday after signing free agent quarterback Charlie Whitehurst to fill the void at the backup spot, as Cody Kessler was the only healthy quarterback on the team. Robert Griffin III injured his shoulder in the Browns opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, while Josh McCown also injured his shoulder in Cleveland’s Week 2 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Wright never saw a snap for the Browns, as he was inactive the first two games.

Cleveland.com reported the Browns will try to sign Wright to their practice squad if he clears waivers. Teams have 24 hours to place a claim on Wright.

Wright was drafted in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL draft out of Arizona, where he earned numerous accolades and was hailed as one of the best defensive players in his country.

The linebacker only played three games in his last season with the Wildcats, as he ailed all year from a knee injured he suffered in their first game of the season.

Wright earned five awards in his standout 2014 season, where he was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, he earned the Chuck Bednarik Award (Defensive Player of the Year), the Bronko Nagurski Award (Most Outstanding Defensive Player), the Vince Lombardi Award (Lineman of the Year) and he was named a consensus All-American.

In his three seasons at Arizona, Wright was credited with 270 total tackles with 43.5 for a loss, 17 sacks, five forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one interception.
