Diamondbacks leave touching note for Miami Marlins

Sep 30, 2016, 11:12 AM | Updated: 4:59 pm

The Diamondbacks left Washington with series split with the Nationals, but what they left behind for the next team to use the visiting locker room and facilities means more than any baseball game.

That team is the Miami Marlins, who are in the nation’s capital for a road series. The Marlins, as you probably know, are still reeling from the passing of star pitcher Jose Fernandez. And what the D-backs left is a note:

The home run the note refers to is the leadoff one Dee Gordon hit on Monday, which was the first game the Marlins played following Fernandez’s untimely death. The second baseman teared up as he rounded the bases, and couldn’t hold it in when he reached home plate.

While there is nothing the D-backs or anyone can do to bring Fernandez back, this gesture is a nice sign that baseball teams and players, while competitive, are also one big family.
