Draft history doesn’t bode well for Arizona Cardinals

While everyone is spending time bickering about which player in this month’s draft would help the Arizona Cardinals win right away and which player is just too flawed to even consider taking at number five overall, the sad truth may be that who they take is irrelevant. That is if you choose to believe a study done of the last five NFL drafts.

According to research done by CSNBayArea.com in which they ranked every NFL team’s drafts since 2006 based on “where a team picked; how many star players were drafted; booms and busts at the top of the draft; late-round gems; and how the players selected contributed to wins and losses”, the Cards are in some trouble.

The site’s analysis didn’t bode well for the team as they ranked 29th ahead of only the abysmal Cincinnati Bengals, Washington Redskins and Buffalo Bills.

The Cardinals selected tackle Levi Brown at No. 5 in 2007 when they could’ve had Adrian Peterson. Brown still has a chance to be a good player. The notable misses are Leinart (No. 10 in 2006), defensive tackle Alan Branch (second round, 2007) and Cody Brown (second round, 2009)

Well there you have it. We all should probably find something better to do the night of the NFL draft this year like going to Home Depot. Maybe buy some wallpaper, get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, & Beyond, if you have enough time.

That or maybe the Cards have learned from their previous transgressions and will make the most of having a draft pick in the top 10 for the first time in three seasons. They may wind up with the next Levi Brown or they could wind with the cornerstone of the franchise. That’s the beauty in the NFL, you never know what will happen from year to year. We’ll just have to watch and see (if the errands don’t get in the way).
