Food held Arizona QB Foles back

Arizona quarterback Nick Foles passed for 3,191 yards and 20 touchdowns last season, leading the Wildcats to the seven wins and an appearance in the Alamo Bowl.

A solid season, sure, but the signal caller enters his senior season with a new diet, one that should help him perform even better.

According to the Tucson Citizen, Foles learned over the off-season that he was allergic to whey protein, milk and eggs. His reaction to those foods, the report says, caused slight swelling and general sluggishness.

“My biggest allergy was whey protein,” he said. “It wasn’t doing anything for me, and it was actually making me have a food-allergy reaction.

“I had drank whey protein shakes my whole life, and when I got off them and started taking different supplements and proteins, I noticed a huge difference in the weight room and my body fat going down. My muscles were recovering better and my strength was going up. Just everything.”

The change is good news for the Wildcats, not so much for their opponents.

Arizona enters the season with question marks on defense, meaning Foles and the offense are going to need to rack up a significant amount of points if they are to compete in the Pac-12.
