Cat Tracks: Arizona takes care of business against South Carolina State

Sure, you could read the box score and know who won, but we all know that won’t tell you everything that happened in a football game. So, we give you ‘Cat Tracks’, providing you with the analysis, quotes and notes from Arizona’s September 15 win over South Carolina State. Final score: Arizona 56, South Carolina State 0.

The Good:

Where do you start?

Coming off one of the program’s biggest wins in recent memory, there was some concern the Wildcats would suffer a bit of a letdown against an FCS opponent they should have little trouble with.

No worries, though, as senior quarterback Matt Scott was once again brilliant, completing 30-of-36 passes for 288 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran the ball nine times for 61 yards and a score.

Of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the defense, which held the Bulldogs to just 154 yards of total offense while pitching a shutout.

The Bad:

The Wildcats fell two yards short of setting a school record?

About the only negatives one could find from Arizona Saturday were a Richard Morrison fumble on the team’s second drive of the game and a John Bonano missed field goal from 25 yards out on the third drive.

Noted:

The Wildcats set school records for first downs in a game (43), have won five games in a row for the first time since 1998, and shutout an opponent for the first time since 2008.

Coming Up Next:

Arizona hits the road for the first time this season when they travel to Eugene to face the Oregon Ducks at Autzen stadium.
