Inside the Box for
August 19, 2011: Packers 28, Cardinals 20

The Good:

One of the biggest question marks surrounding the Cardinals coming into the preseason was if they could generate any pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

It was only a preseason game, but the Cardinals got consistent pressure on Packers’ QB Aaron Rodgers early and often.

Dan Williams, Darnell Dockett, Calais Campbell and O’Brien Schofield were all credited with sacks.

Larry Fitzgerald made a spectacular one-handed grab in the first quarter.

Kevin Kolb did some nice things completing 6 of 11 passes for 80 yards. Kolb led the Cardinals on two drives that resulted in field goals.

Back-up quarterback Richard Bartel looked impressive at times completing 13 of 19 passes for 169 yards and a touchdown.

Stephen Williams had a phenomenal touchdown catch in the second half.

Rookie tight end Rob Housler caught five balls for 68 yards.

Beanie Wells looked good rushing against the Packers’ starting defense gaining 44 yards on 11 rushes.

Wide receiver DeMarco Sampson had three catches for 68 yards.

Kicker Jay Feely converted 2 of 3 field goals only missing a 59-yarder.

The Bad:

The Cardinals suffered some key injuries against the Packers.

Rookie and second round pick running back Ryan Williams suffered an injury in the third quarter and had to be carted off the field.

After the game, coach Whisenhunt said Williams “probably” suffered a ruptured patella tendon which would put him out for the season.

Back-up quarterback John Skelton also had to leave the game with an apparent sprained ankle.

The Cardinals second and third team defense couldn’t seem to stop the Green Bay passing attack down the stretch as the Packers scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to win the game.

Arizona was sloppy committing 11 penalties for 60 yards.

Levi Brown had two false start infractions.
