Suns officially re-sign Collin Gillespie, 2 others

The Phoenix Suns officially re-signed guards Collin Gillespie and Jordan Goodwin and center Mark Williams on Monday.

Gillespie and the Suns reportedly agreed to a four-year deal worth $48 million.

“Collin embodies the effort, toughness and competitiveness that define our culture,” Suns general manager Brian Gregory said in a press release. “He thrived in an expanded role last season, proving to be one of the league’s most improved players.

“Collin has earned the respect of his teammates as well as our community, and we’re excited to see him continue making an impact both on and off the court in Phoenix.”

Gillespie is coming off a career year where he 12.7 points, 4.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.

He also set a new franchise record for 3-pointers in a single season with 232 on 40% shooting.

With Royce O’Neale and Grayson Allen shipped off to Charlotte in a trade package that brought back Miles Bridges, Gillespie’s shooting will be counted on this year.

Suns make re-signing of Jordan Goodwin official

Goodwin is back on a three-year deal worth $19 million, according to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro. The third year is a player option, Gambadoro added.

“Jordan plays with relentless effort and competes every game with the kind of toughness that defines our culture,” Gregory said.

“He has a unique ability to create extra possessions through his offensive rebounding and by forcing turnovers. His competitiveness and energy are invaluable, and he is a perfect fit for what we are building in Phoenix.”

Goodwin averaged 8.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game last year for the Suns.

He brought added tenacity to the rotation, earning Phoenix’s annual Majerle Hustle Award given out to the Suns player who showcased the most hustle, grit and determination.

Goodwin has also seen a bump in 3-point shooting, firing at least 37.1% from deep the past two seasons.

Mark Williams officially re-signs with Phoenix

Williams, who was a restricted free agent this offseason, returns on a reported three-year deal worth $38 million. It is fully guaranteed.

“Mark played a pivotal role in our team’s success last year, helping us establish an identity that we will continue to build on,” Gregory said. “His size and athleticism give him the ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor.

“We’re excited to see him build on that progress and continue expanding his game. At 24 years old, Mark’s best basketball is in front of him and we’re thrilled that this will occur as a Sun.”

The big man is coming off a career-high 60 games played (55 starts) for Phoenix last year. He averaged 11.7 points and eight rebounds.
