Richard Sherman: ‘I’d be benched’ if I played like Arizona Cardinals’ CB Patrick Peterson

Many people consider Patrick Peterson to be one of the NFL’s top cornerbacks — but Seattle Seahawks CB Richard Sherman said the Arizona Cardinals’ 2011 first-round draft pick isn’t in the same elite category as him.
“You give up eight touchdowns in a year, it’s hard to put you in that discussion,” Sherman told NBC’s Bob Costas in an interview that aired before the Seahawks routed the Cardinals on Sunday.
“I think at the end of the day, the tape will speak for itself. I don’t know if everybody’s compared on an even scale or how they’re comparing everything, but I don’t know if he should be mentioned with us.
“If gave up that many touchdowns, I think I’d be benched on our team. We have a level of accountability, and that’s what we strive for. You can’t give up big plays like that and still play (on our team).”
Peterson and Sherman engaged in an entertaining Twitter battle following the announcement of Peterson’s 5-year, $70 million contract.
Costas asked if Sherman would keep an eye on Peterson during Sunday’s game. Sherman said he didn’t plan to.
“I really don’t care what happens in his game, honestly,” he said. “I’d be concerned about what we’re doing in the win-loss category and what the scoreboard looks like.”
