There was supposed to be a long break for the Arizona Cardinals in the third day of the NFL Draft on Saturday, as they owned two seventh round picks following two fifth rounders.

They decided to jump into the sixth round by giving up both of their seventh round selections, making a trade with the Oakland Raiders, to draft Johnathan Ford, a safety from Auburn.

Johnathan “Rudy” Ford played four years at Auburn, appearing in 52 games (34 starts).

He was named to the All-SEC third team in 2016 after he made 59 total tackles, 5.5 of which were for a loss, one fumble recovery and seven passes defensed.

He also put up big numbers in his sophomore and junior years. In 2015, he tallied 118 total tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles, two interceptions and two passes defensed. He had 93 total tackles, a forced fumble, three interceptions and a pass defensed during his sophomore campaign.

Ford is 5-feet 11-inches tall and 205 pounds.

He entered the Tigers program as an All-Alabama running back in high school, but he was quickly transitioned over to defense.
