The Arizona Diamondbacks placed starting pitcher Taijuan Walker on the 10-day disabled list for a blister on his right index finger.

In nine starts, Walker is 4-3 with a 3.46 ERA and 46 strikeouts. In November the 24-year-old was acquired in a trade that shipped middle infielder Jean Segura to the Seattle Mariners.

Walker was sensational in his last outing Friday, allowing no runs on two hits and three walks in six innings pitched, picking up his fourth win of the season.

Left-handed pitcher T.J. McFarland was reinstated from the 10-day DL in place of Walker for an ankle injury. McFarland has pitched 5.2 innings this season in five appearances, allowing one earned run and five hits for a 1.59 ERA. He will be active for Sunday’s game against the San Diego Padres.

Walker’s move to the disabled list is retroactive to Saturday.

The Diamondbacks are already down a starting pitcher from the Opening Day rotation.

Zack Godley has filled in for Shelby Miller after the latter pitcher underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery, and Arizona could potential look at Braden Shipley to fill in for Walker’s next scheduled start. Shipley made one start in place of Miller, going four innings while allowing three earned runs and five hits with six walks in a 4-2 loss to the Washington Nationals on May 4.
