The Arizona Diamondbacks named Reno Aces outfielder Oswaldo Arcia and Kane County Cougars pitcher Jon Duplantier as their Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Month for May on Friday.
Arcia batted a robust .367 (29-for-79) during the month, while adding six home runs and 22 RBI. The Venezuelan native, whom Arizona signed to a minor-league deal last December, currently ranks in third in the Pacific Coast League in hitting (.359), and his 54 RBI tie him with teammate Christian Walker for the league lead.
Duplantier continued his dominant 2017 season in May, posting a 4-0 record, a 0.79 ERA and a 0.71 WHIP. The 2016 third-round pick struck out 34 and walked seven in six May starts. Duplantier also won the award in April, making him the first organizational pitcher to win the honor in consecutive months since Archie Bradley did it back in 2013. The 22-year-old leads the Midwest League with a microscopic 0.50 ERA, a 0.66 WHIP and is third in strikeouts with 62 on the season.
