Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt has been nominated for the Roberto Clemente Award.

Every season, Major League Baseball hands out the annual award to recognize a player who made a positive impact both on and off the field. All 30 MLB teams will celebrate the 16th-annual Roberto Clemente Day on Wednesday.

Goldschmidt, 29, was one of seven 2017 MLB All-Stars nominated, along with Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros, Justin Turner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Josh Harrison of Pittsburgh Pirates, Buster Posey of the San Francisco Giants, Robinson Cano of the Seattle Mariners and Ryan Zimmerman of the Washington Nationals.

One player from each team was nominated.

In addition to being in contention for the National League MVP award, this is Goldschmidt’s fourth-consecutive year as the D-backs’ nominee. Andrew McCutchen of the Pirates and Curtis Granderson of the New York Mets captured the award in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

Off the field, Goldschmidt has helped kids in the community through “Goldy’s Fund 4 Kids,” a partnership between the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation, Goldschmidt and his wife Amy, which has raised money for the Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

On the field, Goldschmidt has put together another stellar campaign in 2017. “America’s First Baseman,” is one of four players in baseball with at least 30 home runs, 100 RBI and a batting average of .300 or better.
