Houston Texans’ Andre Johnson provides shopping spree for needy children

Houston Texans star receiver Andre Johnson seems to really embrace the spirit of the holiday season.
Tuesday morning, Johnson treated 12 kids from children’s protective services — as well as some of their siblings — to a holiday shopping spree at his expense. USA Today reports this is the seventh straight year the 32-year-old receiver has funded the event.
This year’s shopping spree took place at a Toys “R” Us in Houston. The children had 80 seconds to grab everything they could — the specified amount of time representing Johnson’s jersey number for the Texans.
When it was all said and done, the bill for the kids’ shopping trip came to $17,352, and the six-time Pro Bowler was there to pick up the tab.
“It’s the holiday season. It’s the time for giving,” Johnson told Texans TV. “People that know me know I have a big heart, and I like to give back and help people out. That’s just why I do what I do.”
