D-backs, Paul Goldschmidt launch ‘Bleacher Creature’ program to benefit PCH

May 20, 2014, 9:10 PM | Updated: 9:10 pm

Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt’s impact in the local community is by no means limited to his production inside the white lines of Chase Field.

The 2013 National League MVP runner-up and the D-backs announced Tuesday that they’ve teamed up to create a new program called ‘Bleacher Creature’ through Goldschmidt’s new fund, Goldy’s Fund 4 Kids.

The ‘Bleacher Creature’ program features Goldschmidt’s likeness in plush doll form.

The dolls can be purchased for $44 at all D-backs’ home games (Section 111) or at dbacks.com/goldyfund.

Money raised from ‘Bleacher Creature’ purchases will benefit the Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

“It’s just a natural fit,” Goldschmidt said in a press release. “My wife, Amy, and I have had the opportunity to volunteer over at Phoenix Children’s Hospital and see a lot of the needs over there. It’s a very worthy cause. There are a lot of families with kids there that can use the help, and with them being a partner of the D-backs, it was just a win-win for everyone. Plus, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation does so many great things in the community, so working with them means a great partner and a great opportunity. I’m just glad to be a small part of it and try to help out as much as I can.”

Goldschmidt and his wife are hoping to raise $100,000 for PCH through the ‘Bleacher Creature’ program and other Goldy’s Fund 4 Kids’ fundraisers.
