Texas HS receiver inspires with postgame interview

Last Friday night’s game between East View High and Vandegrift High of Austin, Tex. was quite a barnburner.

After trailing by two touchdowns at halftime, East View rallied, took the lead and then successfully stopped a Vandegrift two-point conversion attempt with :13 remaining in the game.

With the win, the Patriots pushed their record to 4-0 on the season.

Most impressive though, was what transpired after the game.

Senior wide receiver Apollos Hester gave a postgame interview to Lauren Mickler of TWC News Austin that was eye-opening — in a good way.

Normally when a high school athlete gets a microphone and camera in their face, the results are forgettable.

That wasn’t the case here. Hester used the short interview to share an inspiring message to those watching.

We don’t know how many people in Austin saw it live, but as of Monday afternoon, the YouTube video had received well over 1.5 million hits.

Something tells us this won’t be the last time we see Apollos Hester.

Well done, Apollos — this is a message that everyone can relate to.
