Former Arizona Diamondbacks slugger J.D. Martinez is expected to be introduced as a member of the Boston Red Sox on Monday after reworking a contract initially agreed upon a week prior, according to multiple reports.

The Boston Globe reported Sunday that Boston will hold a Monday morning press conference after changes were made to the free agent’s reported five-year, $110 million deal.

While the terms didn’t change, there were small alterations made to the contract to account for issues that were reportedly revealed during Martinez’s physical.

“That is very fair,” agent Scott Boras told the Boston Globe when asked if the sides were nearing an agreement to restructure language in the original contract.

It is not known if injury or otherwise led to the delay in Martinez officially joining Boston.

Last year, he appeared in 119 games after missing more than a month to start the year with a Lisfranc ligament injury in his right foot. Arizona attempted to woo Martinez back after he slugged .303/.376/.690 in 2017, splitting time with the Detroit Tigers and, after a trade, the D-backs.

However, Arizona could not compete with the Red Sox’s lucrative offer. In the following days, the Diamondbacks moved on by signing outfielder Jarrod Dyson and trading for Steven Souza Jr.
