The Phoenix Suns may draft a big name point guard of the future. It just may not be Jimmer Fredette.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Sam Amick the Phoenix Suns were one of the first teams to talk with UConn’s Kemba Walker.
Based on his conversations with NBA teams, Walker said he expects to be taken “anywhere from three to eight.” Walker said his first interviews were with the Pistons (No. 8 pick), Phoenix (No. 13) and Houston (No. 14), although there were surely many more to come.
While logic would dictate that Walker would most likely be gone by the time the Suns select, Amick said via Twitter that ‘he might be there’.
Walker would be an intriguing option. He’s proven he can win as he helped lead his team to a national championship. He also filled the stat sheet averaging 23.5 points and 4.5 assists a game last season.
The question mark with Walker is his size. At 6-foot-1 and 172 pounds he’d be small by today’s NBA point guard standards. That doesn’t mean he won’t be successful.
The one thing fans can take out of this news is the Suns seem to be interested in making a splash at No. 13.
Whether it’s Jimmer or Kemba, they may land a name you’re familiar with. The question will then become, can they live up to the hype?
