ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

Goldschmidt, Murphy go yard with two second-inning bombs

The Arizona Diamondbacks have struggled offensively, never scoring more than two runs in each of their last three games.

To make matters worse, they have lost 12 of their last 13 and have only scored more than two runs in three of those games.

Their offensive woes seemed to take a backseat early in Wednesday’s 9-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers as the D-backs found the long ball not once, but twice in the second inning.

Looking at a 1-0 deficit, D-backs first baseman Paul Goldschmidt stepped up to the plate and let one fly.

With that swing, the D-backs knotted things up at 1-1.

But they weren’t done there.

Two batters later, D-backs catcher John Ryan Murphy went the long way, sending the ball into the center field wall and giving the D-backs a 2-1 lead.

With his latest home run, Murphy now has his fifth homer in his 29th game of the season. Entering 2018, he had just five career home runs in 146 games.

Although it seemed the D-backs’ bats were waking up, they couldn’t do anything else offensively, losing their seventh straight game.
