Cardinals’ new food menu items include seven-pound burger challenge

GLENDALE, Ariz. — The Arizona Cardinals on Tuesday unveiled their new menu of food items at University of Phoenix Stadium for the 2018 season. And it includes plenty of new options.

The headliner is clearly the Gridiron Burger Challenge where, for $75, fans take on a seven-pound “burger” made up of five 1/3 pound patties, five hot dogs, five brats, 20 slices of cheese, eight pieces of bacon, eight chicken tenders and 12 ounces of fries. Then, just to make sure they get their vegetables, lettuce, pickles and tomatoes are piled onto the 10-inch bun as well. As if that wasn’t enough, it’s covered in tanker sauce.

If a fan can somehow eat the whole thing in under an hour, they get a free jersey and their picture goes on the scoreboard. According to chef Sean Kavanaugh, no one behind the scenes has been able to do it yet.

The Gridiron Burger joins smaller, more familiar selections like the Cardiac Cards Dog ($14) and Fire Dog ($6), in addition to a number of Family Fan Value Packs. The Cardiac Cards Dog is made up a of a foot-long all beef hot dog wrapped in a Smash Burger patty and then wrapped again in maple peppered bacon. Cotija cheese, pico de gallo and roasted Poblano Queso are all thrown on top, too.

The Fire Dog is a little more simple. Relatively, at least. Nacho cheese, Flaming Hot Cheetos and jalapenos are all piled on to an all-beef hot dog.

Other new items on the menu for 2018 include:

– Gridzilla Burger ($22) – essentially a smaller version of the Gridiron Burger.

– Dirty Fry Bird ($21) – a pound of fries covered with queso, pico, jalapenos … and six fried chicken legs.

– Churro Donut Sundae ($11) – vanilla and chocolate ice cream topped with a hot churro donut and served in a waffle cone cup with caramel and chocolate syrup poured over the whole thing.

– Taco-dilla ($15) – a cheese quesadilla cut in fourths and topped with four tacos that are either red chile beef or pollo asada.

– Spiked Seltzer ($9) – Cape Cod Cranberry or Indian River Grapefruit flavors.

– Sausage ($7) – Italian sausage served with sauteed peppers and onions. Smoked and hot varieties are available too.

– Baked Potato ($8) – loaded with red chile beef or pollo asada, along with butter, sour cream, chives and shredded cheese.
